Why You Should Wait For iPad 2

The rumor says that Apple iPad 2 will release somewhere between February and April 2011. Founder of Digg, Kevin Rose, also jumped into the rumor with his statement: “I have it on good authority that Apple will be announcing the iPad 2 in the next 3-4 weeks, possibly Tuesday February 1st. The iPad 2 will feature a retina display and front/back cameras.” Even though it is still in debate, we need to know what reasons to hold off buying an iPad now and wait for the next generation of this blazing fast and elegant device.

Reasons why you would wait for Apple iPad 2:

  1. Back camera — The first generation of iPad has no camera available yet. But if you pay attention to iPhone/iPad’s SDK, there’s an interface for a camera already implemented. In the Contacts application found in the kit’s emulator, for example, you can tap the “Add Photo” button to add a picture to go along with the contact information. After doing so, a pop-up appears asking if you would like to “take photo” or “choose existing photo”. The iPhone/iPad’s SDK is ready for the camera, but the hardware is not yet.
  2. Retina display or higher DPI display — iPhone 4 has the latest and cutting edge display technology, so-called “Retina display”, so why doesn’t the iPad have the same technology yet? But this is still a rumor I got from the net, so we’ll see until Apple releases the official announcement.
  3. Video chat — With a camera available, there’s a high possibility that iPad will support video chat or video call, like we do with Skype or another messenger.
  4. Multitasking ability with iOS 4.2 — It is highly possible that the next generation iPad or iPad 2 will be delivered with iOS 4.2, which already supports multitasking. So you can be more productive as you work, have more fun as you play, or do a little of both. Everything happens smoothly and efficiently — without slowing down the performance of the foreground app or draining the battery unnecessarily.

So with those reasons, is holding out for the next generation iPad worth it for you? You choose.
