WordPress 3.2 was launched on 4th July 2011. This update has some new interesting features. After heavy testing on my testing environment of this blog, I decided to upgrade my blog to WordPress 3.2. The result: I like the new UI style; probably I was getting a little bored with the old style.
Plugins Compatibility
I tested all my plugins such as DB Cache Reloaded Fix and it is working just fine. Hyper Cache, All In One SEO, Google Analytics for WordPress, Google XML Sitemap, Livefyre are also working fine, as well as other plugins that I’m using.
WordPress 3.2 New Features
Besides the new admin UI style, I like the “Fullscreen” feature. Before, I was using Notepad++ to write new blog posts since it is less distracting. See the view up there to see how it looks in action. The other improvement is the WordPress TwentyTen theme. I’m not using TwentyTen for my blog, but there is a lot of positive feedback for these improvements in the forum. If you are using TwentyTen you can explore these new features to make your blog better.
Other Improvements
WordPress officially dropped PHP 4 and MySQL 4 support. WordPress 3.2 now has minimum requirements of PHP 5.2.4 and MySQL 5. This will surely bring great improvements in performance and stability. So if your hosting still uses the old PHP version, ask them to update; if they don’t want to, it’s probably time to move to another host.
Security improvements also apply in this update. There were some vulnerabilities in WordPress 3.1 because of PHP 4; now they are gone. So I recommend you update to WordPress 3.2 for this reason.
