TeamViewer, The Best and Free Remote Control Software

teamviewer logoTeamViewer is a free software for remote control, desktop sharing, and file sharing between computers connected by internet. TeamViewer operates cross platform between Windows, Mac OSX and Linux. This TeamViewer works well with the computers behind Firewalls and NAT proxy. TeamViewer GmbH was founded in 2005 in Uhingen, Germany. According to the company’s press releases, TeamViewer has over 60 million users operating in 50 countries worldwide. The good thing of this TeamViewer is free to use. Even though it’s free, you can upgrade to business, premium and corporate license.

Since it a remote control software, one thing that will come in your mind. How is the security? TeamViewer allows a VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection to be established between client and server. And also TeamViewer uses a full encryption, based on RSA private-/public key exchange and AES (256 Bit) session encoding. As the private key never leaves the client or the host computer, the encrypted data stream, if intercepted, cannot be deciphered. The password is never sent directly but only through a challenge-response procedure, and is only saved on the local computer. TeamViewer also got many security certification like Quality Seal (by Bundesverband der IT-Sachverständigen und Gutachter / BISG e.V) and ISO 9001:2008 Quality Certification. You can see more certification on their website here.

4. Allow remote reboot and reconnect.
5. Work perfectly for presentation across the internet.
6. Works behind firewall and NAT proxy.
7. Highest security standard with completely secure data channels with key exchange and AES (256 Bit) session encoding, the same security standard used by https/SSL.
8. Browser based access using html and flash.
9. Online status display. In the TeamViewer partner list you can see who is available and connect with them in one mouse click.
10. Optimized performance, TeamViewer optimizes display quality and speed depending on your network connection.
11. It’s Free!

Sometimes our Multiband Technologies cheaper and much simpler GSM Remote Power Socket does the trick (with simple hash commands sent by mobile) and avoids the unnecessary highly technical solutions. For more details on this product, please visit www.multibandtechnologies.com.

RHUB http://www.rhubcom.com is an alternative to the commercial version of teamviewer. You can remotely reboot a computer without having to ask for access permission every time.

Without asking permission? Where is the privacy? If it is to remote a windows server i prefer using famatech radmin, much faster.

If teamviewer support Linux (CentOS)'s desktop access to a window machine ??

Does it work the same on Apple/Mac/OS X?

yes it does :)

I have also tried Anyplace Control (www.anyplace-control.com) and i like it better. It is not free, but nevertheless it is very convenient and user friendly. I tried to connect to my mom's PC that was over 200 miles away and I managed to perform that without any problem. So you may also suggest it.

I don't like LogMeIn cause it's not friendly and it is f*cking expensive.

Hi Reynaga,
I believe you can filter teamviewer to your iToffice config.

Great article, very helpfull. I´m looking for an alternative that works behind firewall & proxies.
In my office the IToffice mannaged to block the app connection by blocking www.teamviewer.com. Now is useless.

I prefer Techinline (www.techinline.com) and LogMeIn (www.logmein.com) as they are browser based. I don't like to install apps onto my customers' machines, which Teamviewer requires. Is there any way around this?

TeamViewer have a portable version that doesn't need to be installed on client machine.
But still it need run the apps.
LogMeIn also need java app to be installed on client machine, and you can control it with web interface, TeamViewer also have this feature.
But i prefer not to use web interface, for security reasons.
For techinline, i haven't try it so i can't comment it.
